High Woods Country Park is one of Colchester's beauty spots where you'll find Walking, climbing, dog walking, running, nature, adventure, fishing and much, much more! The Country Park includes woodland, open spaces (ideal for picnics) a lake and wildflower meadows. Along with marshy areas, hayfields and scrubland, High Woods provides the right habitat for thousands of different birds and mammals. It's free for humans too. Highwoods is a great place to walk your dog, it has a mixture of woodland walks and open spaces giving your four-legged friends the opportunity to explore and have a good run about and stretch their legs. Please be aware the park does have 'Code of Conduct' for dog walkers in the Park. The code is a voluntary guide and the main things required are to: Put your dog on a lead in the Turner Road and Chanterelle car parks. Put your dog on a lead if it fails to come back promptly on command or if it has a tendency to chase wildlife. Keep your dog in sight as a dog out of sight may be a dog out of control. Put your dog on a lead when approaching school groups, joggers, cyclists, anglers and livestock. Clear up after your dog. Always make sure you have a suitable bag with you - BAG it, BIN it. Prevent your dog from entering the ponds or lake. Make sure your dog has an ID collar on at all times. Don't assume that everyone likes dogs. Many people are fearful of dogs. Highwood Country Park has a Visitor Centre which is staffed and fully accessible. As well as information about the park, the Visitor Centre serves snacks, tea and coffee, and sells gifts. There is an exhibition space and children's creative corner with plenty of seating on the patio and picnic areas. It also has a doggy bag dispenser in case you have forgotten your own.
